Hey there! I'm Katey. I studied Psychology at the University of Arizona (Go Cats!) and Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University. I have trained in a variety of trauma-informed modalities including EMDR. I spent many years working in non-profits before becoming a therapist. In my roles in community outreach, fundraising, and education, I had the privilege of meeting humans from communities outside of those I was most familiar with. Through these relationships I developed a deep love of people and their stories. I began my career as a therapist working with teen survivors of sexual abuse and their families. My love of people grew witnessing the resiliency and strength of my clients. In my private practice I strive to create a safe, welcoming environment for all people to come and share the stories that have shaped their understanding of the world.
Every therapist is different and it’s important to find one whose style works for you. You can expect me to push and challenge you. You can also expect me to laugh with you and celebrate in your successes. I know that I’m going to be asking clients to open up to me in a way they don’t typically open up to strangers. And we’re going to dig deep on topics that are tough. I don’t take that role lightly. I want every client to feel welcome and comfortable. I want them to know that I will show up as my authentic self for them every time so they feel confident doing the same.
I think it’s valuable, especially in trauma work, to look into the past. We’ll explore past relationships and experiences that have shaped the narrative you tell yourself in the present. We will also look to the future to determine how you want to be moving forward. Our therapeutic relationship will be a safe place for you to explore, share, and develop a secure connection free from judgement.
My best gal pal, and the sweetest puppy ever, Harley, loves to come keep me company while I work with clients. I like to think of her as my co-therapist bringing even more care and empathy to our sessions.
